Super Monday Message

In 334 BC, a young prince named Alexander stood on the bank of the Hellespont Strait looking east and plotting his invasion of Persia. The Greeks had a history of conflict with the Persian Empire and the 21 year old Alexander believed he could end the conflict by conquering the Persians. His army was much smaller than the army he would face and the invasion would require him to take his army deep into enemy territory. Despite the odds, he prepared his army to sail to the opposing shore.

Alexander had the mightiest Navy in the world and skilled crew members. Ferrying his army across the strait was an easy task. Most armies upon landing on enemy shores would establish a route for supplies to follow behind the army, keeping them constantly connected to resources and their safest route of escape. In this case, Alexander did something unexpected. When all the supplies they had brought were unloaded, he ordered his generals to “burn the ships.”

Alexander’s generals were shocked and immediately began trying to convince their leader not to destroy their only means of escape. It’s reported that Alexander's only response to his generals' protests was “We will go home in Persian ships.” By that he implied, we will go home in Persian ships or we will not be going home.

With their ships burning at their backs, the Greek army marched inland. They knew their only hope of going home would have to be won in a conquest of the Persians. There would be no option to retreat. With this motivation, over the next two years, the Persians were conquered. Alexander The Great is still known as one of the greatest military minds in history.

Sometimes all we need to press forward and succeed, is to convince ourselves that succeeding is the only option. When we can run out of our comfort zone and cut ourselves off from returning, we are forced to grow and build a new comfort zone at a higher level. This time of year it’s common to set new goals. One of the ways you can increase your odds of success is to find ways to “burn the ships” behind you. Make success your only option. Have a great week 24.

Super High Fives

Just a couple of the awesome recent accomplishments that need a big thank you. 

• The biggest of super high fives to the Piute High School Cheerleaders who brought home our first State Championship in competitive cheer on Thursday last week. They won all categories of the competition. Congratulations to them for all their hard work and super high fives to all those that have supported the team.
• A super high five to Morgan Hoyt and the FFA team for representing Piute at the SUU competition. We’re getting closer to the spring competitions for our clubs and our students are preparing well.
