SUPER MONDAY

A motivational and informational morning message from Superintendent Willis

Super Monday Message

Hopefully everyone is ready to enjoy our fall break day today. It’s getting a little colder and the days are getting shorter. Today I want to tell a quick story told by Richard Paul Evans in his book “The Spyglass”. A great book for the family.

The story starts with a depressed king. He is discouraged by what his kingdom has become. The fields are barren, the people are poor, the buildings are crumbling, the old songs are forgotten, and the future appears as bleak as ever. The people are frequently hungry and there is little joy in their lives. The king himself is poor in wealth and in spirit. He is ashamed to entertain kings from other lands, fearing them seeing the state of his kingdom.

Then one day a stranger comes to the king. He promises the king that in exchange for a place to stay he will show him what his kingdom needs. The king agrees and the stranger takes him to a balcony overlooking the kingdom. The stranger gives the king a spyglass and as the king looks through it he sees his kingdom transformed. Through the spyglass the buildings appear in good repair and clean, the fields are full of healthy crops, and the people work joyfully. The stranger tells the king he has seen what his kingdom might be, then he commands him to go and make so.

The king then travels among his people. He asks them why they are not tending to the fields and they reply that the fields are not fit for crops. The king allows people to look at the fields through the spyglass and they see fields full of crops and prepared for a large harvest. The king then himself begins digging in the earth of the nearest field and the people begin to join him. Some people are skeptical that the fields could be changed and don’t believe what they see in the spyglass. The king tells the people that they have seen what might be and then commands them to go and make it so.

The king then travels around his kingdom showing people the buildings and streets through the spyglass. Through the spyglass they see their churches and businesses in full repair and grand new buildings. The king starts them working then tells them they have seen what might be. He always ends by commanding them to go and make it so.

After two years the stranger returns to the king and asks for his spyglass. The kingdom is transformed, their fields are full, their buildings restored, the people sing and dance. The king is hesitant to return the spyglass. He promises the stranger great wealth if his people can keep the spyglass. The stranger states that the kingdom no longer needs the spyglass, to which the king protests that they still have so much work to do. The stranger then tells the king that he no longer needs it because he can now see without it. He tells him that all his people lacked was the eye of faith.

As the king ponders that response the stranger states that it was by faith that the people planted seeds and by faith that they laid foundations for buildings. He then states, “The eye of faith is greater than the natural eye, for the natural eye sees only a portion of the truth. The eye of faith sees without bounds or limits.” The stranger finishes by telling him that he can now see what might be without the spyglass, he must now go and make it so.

We do not need a magical spyglass to see the great potential of our students. They have unlimited potential to do great things in our community and in the world. We are tasked with helping them see what might be and then to go and make it so. Make it so with the best week 11.

Super High Fives

Just a couple of the awesome recent accomplishments that need a big thank you.

  • A super high five to the new Sudweeks family pumpkin patch. We love and appreciate having a new pumpkin patch close by. The elementary students loved picking up their big pumpkins close to home.
  • A super high five to Gwen Morgan for managing a great Migrant Education program and a great English Language Learners program. We’re grateful for all Gwen does for our students.
