NATURE AND SCOPE OF JOB

The school Principal serves as the educational leader, responsible for managing the policies, regulations, and procedures to ensure that all students are supervised in a safe learning environment that meets the approved curricula and mission of the school.

Achieving academic excellence requires that the school Principal work collaboratively to direct and support all members of the school staff hired by the Board of Education and to communicate effectively with parents. Inherent in the position are the responsibilities for scheduling, curriculum development, extracurricular activities, personnel management, emergency procedures, and facility operations.

FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Instructional Leadership

  1. Assumes responsibility and instructional leadership for the planning, operation, supervision, and evaluation of the educational program
  2. Communicates with students, teachers, parents and community members using a variety of mediums including technology
  3. Partners with teachers to evaluate the effectiveness of instruction and individual teacher performance
  4. Coordinates and promotes professional growth plans and opportunities for faculty and staff
  5. Coordinates New Teacher Induction and ongoing staff development program
  6. Establishes a professional development plan for all building level administrators and teachers with on-going dialogue, reflection and evaluation
  7. Provides leadership and oversight for the instructional, co-curricular and extra-curricular programs
  8. Conducts faculty and PLC meetings as needed
  9. Takes responsibility for horizontal and vertical articulation and curricular alignment
  10. Works with teachers and parents to implement student interventions that differentiate instruction based on student needs
  11. Reviews curriculum development proposals
  12. Oversees assessment program
  13. Establishes, monitors, and evaluates school improvement goals
  14. Uses data to make decisions about curriculum, assessment, instruction and all school improvement efforts
  15. Establishes a culture of mutual respect and excellence through dialogue and relationships with staff, students, district office administrators, and community members
  16. Develops, monitors, and evaluates programs to enhance positive school culture and climate
  17. Takes responsibility for staffing, enrollment, and budget decisions involving schedule development
  18. Adheres to the State of Utah’s educational leadership standards

Management

  1. Develops Building Master Schedule and Staff Supervision Schedule
  2. Develops and monitors overall school and departmental budgets
  3. Ultimately responsible for building operations and maintenance
  4. Interprets Board of Education and district policies and procedures
  5. Maintains student handbook and building procedures
  6. Responsible for student management, attendance, and discipline
  7. Oversees the inventory, purchase, and organization of textbooks and supplies
  8. Oversees vendor and service contracts
  9. Coordinates building level crisis plan
  10. Supervises school activities and events

Other assignments as needed, assigned by the superintendent under the direction of the Board of Education
