1143 - Custodian all Purpose

JOB SUMMARY:
Under the direction of the Maintenance Supervisor, performs a variety of routine cleaning work in offices, classrooms or other buildings; assists in minor maintenance activities; and performs other related duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Required: 

  1. No specific education requirement, but must demonstrate ability to read and write English at a level required for successful job performance.
  2. One year of work experience in manual work.
  3. Ability to communicate effectively.

Desirable: 

  1. Previous experience in public school system or institute of higher education.
  2. A general knowledge of commercial cleaning techniques.
  3. Hold and maintain a Utah driver's license.

  8. Knowledge of safe work practices.
  9. Ability to drive a car, pickup truck and other vehicles.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS This position may change or evolve in the future, but is not limited to the following:

  1. Sweep, scrub, wax, and polish floors.
  2. Clean and vacuum rugs and carpets.
  3. Clean and sanitize rest rooms.
  4. Dust and polish furniture and woodwork.
  5. Assist in moving/loading/transporting furniture, equipment, supplies and materials.
  6. Clean and polish windows, class doors and drinking fountains.
  7. Clean and polish metal work.
  8. Replace light bulbs.
  9. Make minor non-technical repairs.
  10. Assist with painting and minor carpentry projects.
  11. Clean venetians blinds.
  12. Pick up debris on grounds.
  13. Assist in routine grounds keeping.
  14. Report safety, sanitary and fire hazards.
  15. Conform to district policy regarding attendance and absences. Employee attendance must be adequate to perform the above listed essential job functions.
  16. Drive a car, pickup truck or other vehicle.


MARGINAL FUNCTIONS:

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS Not limited to the following:

  1. Facility to see and read fine print and work with small component parts.
  2. Demonstrate normal depth perception.
  3. Manual dexterity to manipulate small objects and handle tools safely.
  4. Facility to drive a car, pickup truck or other vehicle.
Specific (daily)
  1. Look after and lock and unlock doors and windows at times specified by the principal.
  2. Maintain gas heaters, change filters, adjust thermostats.
  3. Sweep and/or clean all floor space, stairs, and walks, (More often than daily if needed) most halls three times daily.
  4. Turn off lights when not needed, particularly when leaving the building.
  5. Inspect and clean drinking fountains, lavatories and stools.
  6. Mop toilet room floors, disinfect at least daily.
  7. Dust classroom desks, office desk, tables, chairs, window sills, cases, shelves, chalk trays, windows, ledges, tops of lockers. etc.
  8. Pick up paper and trash from yard.
  9. Remove marks from walls.
  10. Check supplies in toilet rooms.
  11. Properly display United States flag, if not otherwise taken care of by principal.
  12. Move heavy items at request of cafeteria director.
  13. Empty cafeteria trash cans.
  14. Wash, wipe door glass, transoms, door knobs, and handrails.
  15. Such additional duties as principal may assign.
