11027 - Covered Furniture
Classroom furniture is provided by the school district (tables, desks, chairs, etc). Teachers are permitted to bring their own furniture into their classroom under circumstances as outlined below.
1. Wood furniture or furniture covered with material that can be washed or cleaned easily is permitted.
2. Furniture currently in the classroom that is covered with a cloth material that can not be taken off and washed weekly, needs to be removed from the classroom environment. In the school office, this furniture needs to be gradually replaced.
3. Reading lofts and built wooden structures used for the purpose of reading places are not permitted if they are elevated or raised. Built wooden structures must have a finish on the wood to prevent splintering. The wooden structures must be child proof material before the structure is safe for children's use.
4. Mini-kitchens are prohibited in the classroom unless called for by student IEP. A mini-kitchen includes a refrigerator, microwave oven, hot plates, toasters, coffeemakers, etc. Mini-kitchens are permitted in the faculty lunch areas and in administrative offices, but must be maintained for cleanliness.
