Super Monday Week 32 SY25

SUPER MONDAY

A motivational and informational morning message from Superintendent Willis

Week 32 ~ March 31st, 2025

Super Monday Message

With the end of March comes the end of March Madness. We have the Final FOur set in the men’s bracket and the last two Final Four spots will be earned in the women’s bracket today. So far every participant in the final four is a number 1 seed and that has taken a little of the “Madness” out of “March Madness.” Sorry for two weeks in a row about college sports.

Long before the phrase “March Madness” was coined, back when college sports were simply about turning young boys into adult men, there was a coach named John Wooden. Coach Wooden was the coach of the UCLA Bruins for 27 seasons from 1948 to 1975. There he won 10 national titles and 7 of them were consecutive. While there have been many great college coaches, none have built the resume equal to John Wooden.

Despite his remarkable success, Wooden’s impact extended far beyond wins and losses. He was known for his "Pyramid of Success," a philosophy that emphasized values like hard work, enthusiasm, self-control, and teamwork. Wooden believed that true success was not about winning but about achieving one’s personal best. His teachings focused on character, preparation, and continuous self-improvement. Principles that have been embraced not only by athletes but also by business leaders, educators, and motivational speakers.

Wooden was a deeply principled man who emphasized humility and discipline. Unlike many of the great coaches of history, he almost never yelled at his players. Instead, he led by example and reinforced positive habits. His ability to connect with and inspire young men helped shape their lives long after their basketball careers ended. Many of his former players credit him with teaching them invaluable life lessons that extended well beyond the game.

Wooden instilled in his players the idea that effort and character matter more than the scoreboard. He emphasized that while winning was a goal, it was never the ultimate measure of a person’s worth. Instead, he encouraged his players to focus on preparation, discipline, and daily improvement. His teams didn’t enter games with the mindset of simply defeating their opponents, they were taught to play their absolute best, regardless of the outcome.

This lesson extended far beyond basketball. Wooden’s belief that success comes from doing your best, rather than seeking fame or fortune, resonated with leaders in business, education, and personal development. He reinforced the importance of integrity, perseverance, and humility, teaching that external rewards are fleeting, but the satisfaction of knowing you gave your best effort lasts a lifetime.

In the spirit of competition and in memory of history’s greatest college basketball coach, let’s seek to do our absolute best every day this week. If you finish the day knowing you did your best, you don’t have to worry about whatever metaphorical scoreboard has been weighing you down. Have the best week 32.
